36 Weeks with Baby #2

How far along? 36 weeks!  We're just over 3 weeks away from baby's debut.  Crazy!

Size?  Baby is the size of a honeydew melon.

Weight Gain?  Not sure.  My guess would be 35 pounds.  I'm ok with that.

Gender? Baby boy!

Sleep?  Still not sleeping well.

Movement?  Still moving quite a bit, but he's definitely running out of room.  None of the sharp, quick movements I was once experiencing.

Food Cravings?  Nada.  I wish I had some interesting cravings.

Labor signs?  I've been having more Braxton Hicks contractions.  I'm not sure if baby dropped, but I seem to be breathing a little easier and I'm definitely feeling movements and strange pains lower.

What I Miss?  The usual.  I really miss being able to play with W on the floor for extended periods of time.  Also, getting up from the floor is nearly impossible.  And my clothes.  I even wore jeans to work on a Thursday... gasp!  I'm such a rebel.  I told my colleagues that I was no longer even trying to look cute and just wearing whatever still fits me.

Symptoms?  This is weird (and I'm totally jinxing myself), but I've actually been feeling pretty good.  I do get tired since I don't sleep well, but the PUPPP (Caladryl is my new best friend!!) and heartburn have improved.  I still have sciatic pain - especially while trying to sleep and my feet get sore, but overall, not bad.  Again, knocking on wood, crossing fingers, shouting jinx because now that I just typed that, I'm sure things will take a turn for the worst!  I did catch W's cold so that stinks, but from a pregnancy standpoint, I'm good.

Happy or Moody?  Mostly happy... This doesn't seem to fit any of the questions so I'm putting it here.  1.  I'm really afraid of my water breaking in public - or even worse, at work! :O  2.  I find it very amusing when men give me advice on child birth.  One told me that he thought a VBAC would be better... Ummm, ok.  In his defense he IS a doctor.  BUT not an obstetrician.  He's a colleague.  So really, he doesn't even see patients.  Regardless of title/qualifications, I'm having a hard time taking advice from someone who will never birth a child.  I've also heard a lot of stories that begin with, "My wife..."  Ok, but every woman, every situation is a little different.  3.  People have been telling me that since my first baby was a relatively easy baby, the second will be way more difficult.  Gee, thanks.  4.  No one asked if I was having twins this week... WINNING.  I was even asked if this is my first baby, which I interpret as I look young and not totally huge.  Ha! ;)

Looking Forward To?  Baby will be here in 3 weeks, 2 days.  Oh my gosh!  We REALLY need to finish the nursery.  He won't be sleeping in it right away, but if we don't finish now, it will never get done.

Best Moment of the Week?  W has always called me "Ma" and I loved it.  But this past week, I became "Mommy" and I might love that even more. <3  W has a nickname for his little brother and it's adorable. :)  W has been putting his doggie in the MamaRoo - also adorable.  I was asked to be my nephew's godmother and I'm so honored.  The only problem?  Baptism is scheduled for 2/1/15.  Not sure if I'll make it.  Last but not least, W ate macaroni and cheese on Sunday.  This won't seem like a big deal to well, anyone.  But W does NOT eat pasta.  Like the texture actually makes him gag dramatically.  He has always refused any type of pasta.  But Sunday, A and I were eating mac and cheese (obviously we wanted to end the week with a very classy meal) and W pointed to A's plate.  We weren't sure what he was asking for.  A gave him mac and cheese, he devoured it, and asked for more?!?!  WHAT?!?  Not sure if it was a one time thing?  Perhaps his way of apologizing for a not so stellar weekend?  Not sure.  I'm still in shock.

34 Weeks with Baby #2

How far along? 34 weeks!

Size?  Baby is the size of a butternut squash and about 5 pounds!  Whoa!!

Weight Gain?  Not sure.  At last check, I think I was up 30 pounds, but I ate more Christmas cookies than anyone ever should.  I've also noticed more swelling/fluid retention so I'm sure it's more than that.

Gender? Baby boy!

Sleep?  Still not sleeping well.

Movement?  I was sitting on the couch with A and pointed out that baby was moving.  It was one of those baby rolls where you can actually see my belly move.  I see it all the time, but it hadn't occurred to me that A had never witnessed it.  His reaction was priceless.  His mouth dropped and he said it would totally freak him out if that was going on inside of him!  Haha!

Food Cravings?  I really wanted chips and salsa last night - and I didn't get them.  Boo.  Otherwise, nothing.

Labor signs?  Not really.  I completely overdid it while cleaning the house on Christmas Eve.  I had a couple contractions and some other signs I won't mention.  I forced myself to sit and relax and felt better.  So not really labor signs, but signs that I need to take it easy.

What I Miss?  Same as always - energy, being able to keep up with W, being able to bend over, being able to walk long distances, sleep, being able to hold W, etc.,

Symptoms?  A lot.  I went from feeling pretty good to feeling pretty bad seemingly overnight.  I have good days, but I also have days where I can't breathe, have major heartburn (maybe baby will have hair after all!), swollen/sore feet, sciatic pain, pressure, itchy belly (PUPPP again!! :( ), the list goes on.  I sound whiny and that's not my intention, but the past week or so has been a lot tougher physically.  I'm also disappointed about the PUPPP.  It's a rash on my belly and extremely itchy.  I equate it to chicken pox on your tummy.  I had it with W and was really hoping to avoid it (it's more common with first pregnancies).

Happy or Moody? Happy for the most part, despite the physical issues.

Looking Forward To?  Finishing the nursery!  Getting excited to meet baby boy!

Best Moment of the Week?  Everything!  See previous posts.

I realize by now that non maternity striped shirts are not the most flattering on me.  BUT I received this shirt for Christmas and it's the most comfortable shirt I've ever encountered!!  It's so soft and I LOVE it.  And lets face it, I'm running out of options so even though it's not the most flattering, I can squeeze into it and it was nice to have something new to wear.  Also, a special appearance by Addie!

32 Weeks with Baby #2

How far along? 32 weeks!  Appointments every 2 weeks now... it's starting to sink in that a baby will be here soon.

Size?  Baby is the size of a squash.

Weight Gain?  Not sure.  I have a doctor's appointment in a couple days.

Gender? Baby boy!

Sleep?  What's that?  Not sleeping well.  I can't get comfortable and toss and turn all night long, W gets up at 5am, etc.

Movement? Still lots of movement, but I think he's getting more cramped.  Lots of hiccups lately.  Both A and W have gotten to feel baby hiccups - although, I think W was confused and started fake hiccuping. :)

Food Cravings?  Nothing.

Labor signs? No.

What I Miss?  Well, sleep.  I'm really trying to enjoy these last few weeks since it's likely that this is my last pregnancy.  I do miss being able to keep up with W and having more energy.  And if I'm being totally honest and selfish, I miss having a glass of wine at events/parties (and there have been lots of those lately).  But all in all, I feel pretty good.

Symptoms?  Tired.  A little heartburn every so often, but I think it was much worse with W at this time.  W being breech may have had something to do with it, though I'm not really sure at what point he settled into a breech position.  The most notable new symptom is swelling.  Say it isn't so!  With W, my feet and ankles swelled up like balloons.  The nurses commented on my gigantic feet every time they came in my room.  I'm hoping it's not as bad this time around.  Also getting a few more leg cramps and sciatic pain.
Lately, EVERYONE has something to say about my pregnancy.  Strangers approach me to ask about my due date and baby's gender.  For someone who doesn't really like to be in the spotlight, it's a little awkward, but I know they all mean well.  It's also a little weird to me - I don't think I've ever talked to someone I didn't know about her pregnancy.  But then again, I'm not super outgoing.  I'm also getting the twins question once again along with "Christmas baby?", "Any day now?", "How much longer?", "WHAT... 2 more months?!?", "Must be a big baby.", "No baby, yet?" (DUH - does it LOOK like I had the baby?!?), and a host of other questions/comments that imply I'm enormous.

Happy or Moody? Ummm... neither?  Both?  I'm kind of in-between.  Happy, but a little overwhelmed by my growing to do list.

Looking Forward To?  Celebrating W turning 2!  Still can't believe that's happening.  We decided to have a small party in January, but Grandma G, Nani, and Papa are coming over this Saturday (W's actual birthday) to celebrate our boy. :)  Excited to have next week off and even more excited for Christmas!!  We haven't made much progress on the nursery lately, but I'm hoping to get more done since A and I will both be home next week.  Also looking forward to scheduling a c-section date at my next doctor's appointment.  It will be exciting to have a potential birth date!

Best Moment of the Week?  W adds new words everyday.  Latest words are: bed, move, and grandma.  I was so worried about his speech at one point - each new word is music to my ears and makes my mommy heart happy. :)

Thank you, A, for taking this picture at a flattering angle! ;)
Also, I realize no one cares, but I've been finding loose tops like the one above, which are non-maternity.  WIN!!  Excited I'll still be able to wear this after baby.

30 Weeks with Baby #2

How far along? 30 weeks!  Eek!  Into the 30's and single digit weeks left!!

Size?  Baby is the size of a cucumber.

Weight Gain?  I think about 25 lbs.

Gender? Baby boy!

Sleep?  Hit or miss.  Mostly miss lately.  Still uncomfortable and I toss and turn a lot.  I've been having strange dreams.  Last night I dreamed that I had the baby and he was really not cute.  Also, there's always a dog near on me. :P

Movement? Still lots of movement.  While doctor was listening to baby's heartbeat, baby gave him a giant kick.  Soccer star perhaps?

Food Cravings?  Nothing.

Labor signs? Too early.

What I Miss?  Even my maternity clothes are starting to get too small - what the heck?!?  Why wouldn't maternity clothes fit the entire 9 months??  I had to purchase a couple more tops because current ones didn't fit and I just could not fathom wearing the same things for the next 2 months.  A bit depressing.  I'm still carrying all in front.

Symptoms?  Still having some back pain and a bit more heartburn.  I still get tired easily and go to bed super early, but overall, I can't complain.

Happy or Moody?  Mostly happy and a tad moody!

Looking Forward To?  Filling baby's dresser with W's newborn clothes.  He had the cutest clothes and they're all in great condition.  Time to wash them up and organize.  I can't wait to look through all of them again.  W's birthday is less than 3 weeks away!  I go between being excited about it and dreading it.

Best Moment of the Week?  Oh, everything!  This is going to be lengthy...

Thanksgiving was fantastic.  Spending 6 whole days with W was wonderful.
The house is decorated for Christmas and looks so festive.  Our stockings arrived yesterday.  We've never had stockings before.  A put lights outside our house - the first time we've had an actual house to put lights on (lights on a townhouse weren't as much fun - not to mention a townhouse is too tall to light up).
Baby's room is really coming together.  The dresser and chair arrived yesterday and I'm in love.  I've gone way overboard choosing decor for the room.  Have you seen my mantle?  Clearly I get the decorating bug from my mom.
We had a 3D ultrasound yesterday.  I left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed that I spent a significant amount of money for 20 minutes of ultrasound time.  BUT when I got home I looked over the ultrasound pictures, thought about the appointment, and felt better.  I got to see baby sucking his thumb, moving about, and practice breathing.  Was it worth the price?  Probably not, but I do love the pictures we got and it was great to see our littlest man.

I think we officially have a name - as in first AND middle name!  The first name was my top choice and the middle name was A's top choice so it seems like a perfect compromise and I'm excited.  A asked me if I was sure about the name and I said no, I'll never be sure.  I was the same way with W.  But this is as close as I'll get to being sure.  And for the record, I love W's name - it just fits him and I'm sure I'll feel the same about this name.

28 Weeks with Baby #2

How far along? 28 weeks!  Officially in the third trimester.  Wow!!

Size?  Baby is the size of an eggplant.

Weight Gain?  Not sure.

Gender? Baby boy!

Sleep?  Well, it was getting very uncomfortable.  I'd wake up often with back pain and leg pain.  A suggested trying the pregnancy pillow and even washed it for me (thanks, hubby!!) and it really helped!  I'm still uncomfortable, but it's not nearly as bad as it was.

Movement? Still lots of movement, but he seems to have settled down a bit.

Food Cravings?  Nothing.  As in absolutely nothing sounds good and I struggle to come up with dinner ideas.

Labor signs? Too early.

What I Miss?  My regular clothes and sleeping on my back.  Also, being able to bend over - I seem to drop things about 254 times per day and I get annoyed every time!

Symptoms?  Lots of back pain throughout the day.  Any time I sit for a period of time and then try to stand and walk, major pain.  I would always see pregnant ladies walking really slowly and wonder... now, I get it.  I think my chair at work is part of the problem.  Think I can convince them to get me a message chair?? ;)

Happy or Moody?  Happy!  Happy!

Looking Forward To?  Thanksgiving!!  Lots to be thankful for and yummy food. :)  AND I took 2 days off next week, which means I only work 1 day.  Woohoo!!  Excited about purchasing furniture for the nursery.  A and I made a trip to Buy Buy Baby and picked out a dresser and chair.  I'm waiting for Black Friday to purchase, hoping they go on sale.  I'm also so excited to start decorating for Christmas!

Best Moment of the Week?  W has been trying to say so many words lately and it's amazing to watch him learn.  He did awesome at school - playing independently, exploring the classroom, trying new activities - I was so proud of him.  Also excited about my consignment sale finds!!  And A and I noticed that W has at least 3 of his 4 2-year molars showing.  That seems like a weird best moment, but it helps explain the sleepless nights.  I love having a reason/explanation for things!

26 Weeks with Baby #2

How far along? 26 weeks!  Nearing the third trimester... holy moly!

Size?  Baby is the size of a head of lettuce.

Maternity Clothes? Yes.  (I think I'm going to delete this question next update - it's been yes for a long time!)

Weight Gain? About 20 lbs I think... I honestly don't pay much attention when I'm weighed at the doctor's office and I don't know what my exact starting weight was.

Gender? Baby boy!

Sleep?  Sleep is getting more difficult.  I'm just uncomfortable.  I have a pregnancy pillow, but I didn't love it during my first pregnancy so I'm not sure I want to bother with it this time around.  Also, the dog currently uses it - sad but true.

Movement? All the time.  During my last ultrasound, the tech wrote "very active" in his notes.  I'm a bit terrified of what that means for this baby's personality.  W was/is pretty laid back and I fear #2 is going to be a wild man.

Food Cravings?  Nothing really.

Labor signs? Too early.

What I Miss?  My regular clothes.

Symptoms?  Just as I was thinking I might avoid heartburn this time around and have a bald baby, it hit me early in the morning.  Holy burning sensation.  A few Tums and I was feeling like myself again.  Also experiencing back spasms when I wake up.

Happy or Moody?  Honestly?  A bit moody.  I've never been super self conscious, but the comments about how big I am have really gotten to me lately.  So much so that I don't want to talk to people, have a hard time choosing what to wear, and cringe when people ask about my due date.  I assume they're expecting me to tell them that I'm due in November when in reality they're probably asking because they're just curious.  I've even started saying EARLY February because I feel like that sounds a little better?  It's really sad.  I hate that a few stupid comments have made me feel so self-conscious and uncomfortable in my own skin.  I'd like to think I'm a strong person who doesn't let others bring me down, but I guess the rude remarks combined with pregnancy hormones have been a bit much.  I'm sure I'll get over it soon enough, embrace my large baby bump, and move on.

BUT on a very HAPPY note (and not pregnancy related), I just read that Vertex Pharmaceuticals submitted an NDA for a drug combination that would treat the most common form of CF... this is HUGE HUGE news for those affected by CF.  HUGE.  Also, this is what I do at work - I write NDA submissions/supplements so seeing this news from Vertex made me very excited. :)

Looking Forward To?  This weekend - we have no plans (other than school for W) and I'm thrilled about that.  Also excited about the upcoming holiday season.  My second nephew is due to arrive any day now and I'm looking forward to meeting him... as well as the newborn cuddles. :)

Best Moment of the Week?  We have a name!!  And now that we've agreed, I'm second guessing it.  Ahhh... boy names are really tough for me!  Participating in Halloween festivities with W was so so much fun... It's making me really excited for Christmas festivities!  I keep picturing the tree and W coming down the stairs on Christmas morning.  I can't wait! :)  In other news, the nursery is painted and I love it!!  Woohoo!  Let the decorating begin!!

Note the random fire truck and little people on the floor. ;)

24 Weeks Pregnant with Baby #2

How far along? 24 weeks!

Size?  Baby is the size of a cantaloupe.

Maternity Clothes? Yes.  Still able to make some non maternity work, but options are slim.

Weight Gain? Not sure.

Gender? Baby boy!

Sleep?  Ehh... not great and not horrible.  I've started to get more uncomfortable at night.

Movement? This baby is a mover and a shaker.  I wonder if that means he'll be my wild child.  I sent A a video recently of my belly moving.  A also felt baby move for the first time - he could've felt movement much sooner, but we never just sit and relax together (sad, but true).

Food Cravings? Still love those specialty drinks and Coke.

Labor signs? Way too early.

What I Miss? Chicago style hot dogs and sandwiches.  Deli sandwiches sound so good lately and there are so many restaurants that serve them around here.  I would love to get my hands on a sub/hoagie/grinder.  Not sure it fits here, but my boss revealed that there will be a trip to Ireland... in January.  And I would've been asked to go except for the fact that I'll be 9 months pregnant.  Ireland is number 1 on my list of places to visit and to say I'm disappointed is an understatement.  They couldn't have planned this trip for any other time?!?!  I would choose baby over Ireland any day, obviously.  I just can't believe the timing. :\

Symptoms?  Dry skin.  I returned from lunch recently and noticed that my skin had gotten so dry, it was actually flaky on my face.  So weird and it looked terrible.  I use plenty of moisturizer in the morning and it definitely didn't look like that when I left he house.  More discomfort lately.  Any time I try to cook, clean, or run errands for a long period of time, I end up really sore and tired.  Also having a little pain near my c-section scar.

Happy or Moody?  Well, I was happy.  W has slept well the past couple nights.  BUT yesterday and today, I received the following comments,  "Your THAT big already?!?", "Just one baby??", "WOW, you are REALLY big for having so much further to go!!" from separate people.  So feeling very self conscious, sensitive, and just plain gigantic.  People should know better and shame on them for bringing me down (and shame on me for letting them).  On another note, I'm preparing some witty replies to have at my disposal for the next stupid comment I receive.

Looking Forward To?  Halloween with W.  We have parties and trick-or-treating coming up.  Next ultrasound of baby is also coming up soon.  Painting the nursery starts Friday.  Can't wait to see our fall photos.  Our photo session wasn't perfect, but much improved over the 1 year photos.  I think there will be some great shots of W. :)

Best Moment of the Week?  We MAY have a name.... or we may not.  BUT A called baby by my favorite name.  When I asked him about it, he said he didn't like referring to baby as "he" or "the baby" so I'm taking that as a positive sign. :)  Baby Gap had lots of things on sale and sent me a code for 40% off, no exclusions.  So I stocked up on size 3 items for next fall/winter.  Call me shallow, but I love Baby Gap and love a bargain!  I've done this since W was born because Gap seems to be true to size (for him) and it's been great having items ready (at a discounted price) when the seasons change.  Also, we carved pumpkins last night and W was very into it - warmed my heart.  Lots of great moments lately.

A took this picture of me last night and I do think I suddenly look huge (still doesn't make it ok for people to tell me that).  Either baby had a growth spurt, baby is in an awkward position, or the shirt is really unflattering.  Perhaps all of the above.  BUT all that matters is baby is growing and healthy!!  P.S. A put that mirror up above the fire place over the weekend and I LOVE it. :)

22 Weeks with Baby #2

How far along? 22 weeks!  Over the halfway point.  I can't believe how fast this is going.  Makes me nervous because there is lots to do!  I often catch my reflection and think, "I just can't believe this round of IVF worked.  I'm so thankful."

Size? Baby is the size of a papaya.

Maternity Clothes? Yes.

Weight Gain? About 15 pounds... eek!

Gender? Baby boy!

Sleep? I don't want to jinx it, but pretty good recently.  I think I'm finally over my cold!

Movement? Lots of movement everyday!  I don't remember W moving this much.  Baby has frequent dance parties. :)

Food Cravings? Still love those specialty drinks.  Not a craving, but I've had a couple work dinners recently and I do miss not being able to order a glass of wine or a cocktail - Sprite just doesn't seem as sophisticated. :)  (But I'd never have another drink for the rest of my life if it meant a healthy baby)

Labor signs? Way too early.

What I Miss? Chicago style hot dogs.

Symptoms?  I've had back spasms, sciatic pain, and shin splints the last few days.  Not sure if I really overdid it the past weekend or if my body is reacting to extra weight.  It's also getting harder to bend over.  Nothing I can't handle!

Happy or Moody?  Happy!!

Looking Forward To?  I'm taking this Friday off and so looking forward to spending the day with W.  I've been talking to the painter and hopefully painting the nursery will start soon.  I can't wait for it to come together.  Also excited about all things fall - corn mazes, farms, trick-or-treating, costumes... the list goes on and on.

Best Moment of the Week?  Lots... Love feeling so much movement - I laid in bed with my hand on my belly last night and felt baby moving all around. :)  W has been tons of fun lately and I think his cold is nearly gone (hoping!).  A had CF clinic yesterday and it went well.  A few major work projects are now complete and I'm much less stressed.  Phew!  I also told my boss I would NOT be traveling to a work meeting in Cincinnati in December and she was fine with it.  Happy she agrees!  Traveling at 8 month pregnant during the winter - no thanks!!

A special appearance from Addie dog for the 22 week photo!
Also, I think my belly looks much bigger than this photo portrays.

How I Revealed Baby #2's Gender

It occurred to me that I never shared how I told A another sweet boy was on the way.

When I was pregnant with W, A was present during the ultrasound so we found out W's gender together.  We had a fun little day - gender reveal, then lunch, then shopping for a couple boy items to celebrate the big news.  This time around, I elected to do the Verifi test.  I liked that several chromosomal abnormalities could be tested for and being able to find out baby's gender was an added bonus.  But it also meant that I would find out baby's gender without A being present.

My OB's office never called me to let me know that the Verifi results were in.  I ended up calling them and was told that my test results were in fact in, but that a doctor needed to review them so they'd call back the following day.  Torture!!  And incredibly nerve wracking.  I thought that meant something was wrong.

The next morning, I kept my phone near me at all times.  Except when I walked down the hall to ask a coworker a question.  Naturally, that's the exact time I received a call from the doctor's office.  They left me a voicemail indicating that all test results were normal (such a relief!) and that they knew baby's gender so if I wanted to know, I needed to call back.

Of course I called back right away.  I was shaking as I made the call.  I didn't care either way, but it was such important and exciting news!  The gender of my baby!!  Would W have a sister or a brother?  Would I be buying bows or trucks?  I always thought boy.  But then there were times when I thought, "What if I'm wrong?".

The nurse didn't make me wait long and announced, "It's a boy!".  Another boy.  I smiled and thanked her.  It was so strange to find out via phone call.  And even stranger to have such a big secret all to myself.

Prior to the Verifi test, I had purchased a onesie that said Little Brother.  I was that confident that baby was a boy.  I didn't tell anyone about my purchase for fear that they'd think I was crazy and just kept the onesie in a bag in my closet.  I planned to give A the onesie when I got home, but I just couldn't wait.  I was so excited to share the news.
I immediately texted A and our conversation went something like this:
Me:  I have a secret
A:  A secret you can share??
Me:  Let's play a little game...
Me:  Go upstairs and into my closet
A:  Hang on, bringing W with me
A:  Ok, I'm there
Me:  Towards the back of the closet, near the hamper, you should see a gray bag
A:  Yes, I see it
Me:  Open it!!
A:  A BOY!!!!
A:

It turned out to be such a fun way to tell A. :)  He was very excited and though he never admitted it beforehand, he later told me he was hoping for another boy.

20 Weeks with Baby #2!

How far along? 20 weeks!  Halfway there!

Size? Baby is the size of a banana.  That seems large!

Maternity Clothes? Yes.  Still able to make some non maternity tops work.  I've been trying to have fun dressing the bump... hence my maternity fashion post. :)

Weight Gain? Not sure and I don't care.

Gender? Baby boy!

Sleep? Terrible lately.  I never feel like I get enough sleep.  Every night, either W or A wakes me up.  W crying or A snoring loudly.  I'm ready to check into a hotel!

Movement? Movement every day.  Waiting for those big kicks!!

Food Cravings? Specialty drinks!!  They're terrible for you and high in sugar, but I could have one every single day.  Trying to limit myself to 1 drink in the morning each week and 1 after work... 2 drinks per week.  My favorites are still the Caramel Frappe from McD's, Decaf Pumpkin Spice Latte, Decaf Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino, and Caramel Apple Spice.  Yum!!  I literally want one all the time.

Labor signs? Way too early.

What I Miss? Chicago style hot dogs and Potbelly's turkey sandwich.  Being able to hold W for long stretches.  Being able to get up after sitting on the floor.

Symptoms?  My first leg cramp.  I got these during the night when I was pregnant with W and they are really painful.  Today I woke up not feeling well - sore throat, stomach pains, and nausea.  Hope whatever it is passes quickly!

Happy or Moody?  Moody.  My colleagues keep criticizing what I eat/drink for breakfast/lunch and it's really annoying.  Admittedly I don't eat enough fruits and veggies, but they're criticizing what I do eat/drink.  Especially my favorite - caffeine free Coke.  I have 1 each day and it's apparently the worst thing ever.  Sigh.  I also considered taking a sick day this week - I've just been feeling overwhelmed and tired all the time.  Cue major work situation, which means no sick day for me.

Looking Forward To?  The 20 week ultrasound!  I'm equal parts excited and nervous.  This is the big ultrasound where they look at all baby's organs, take measurements, etc.  Praying baby is healthy and on track.  Also looking for confirmation that he is in fact a he (not that I have any doubt).

Best Moment of the Week?  Slowly beginning to order items for baby #2's nursery.  I LOVE decorating rooms.  W and I played outside together on Sunday and I so enjoyed it.  He even got Ma to crawl up the playground equipment and go down the slide with him (I thought I was going to get stuck). :)

An Update on my Boys

Yesterday's post was a bit of a downer.  Like I said, it's been a long week.  But the good news is W slept through the night, which means mom got some sleep!!  I feel like a new person - except now I feel like I may be coming down with A's cold.  Uggh.  Anyway, time to talk about my boys... <3

It’s no secret that I love to talk about W.  I want to remember all the cute things he says and the funny things he does.  Lately, he makes me laugh constantly and I’m always surprised by his level of understanding.  After thinking that toddlerhood was going to be really tough and expecting that I wouldn’t really enjoy this stage, I’ve actually found myself loving raising a toddler (lately).  Well, except for the lack of sleep.  I realize this could change in a minute.  A couple months or so ago, W was having tantrums, hitting, and throwing various objects.  He still does these things occasionally, but not nearly as often.  He’s started saying quite a few more words, which helps him communicate, which leads to less frustration (I think).  Anyway, a couple fun things lately…

W had woken up from a nap and was cranky.  Usually extra cuddles and a snack perks him up.  Well on this particular day, I was in a hurry.  I needed to change clothes so I brought him to the bedroom with me and sat him on the bed.  I thought I’d change quickly, then pick him back up and head downstairs for a snack.  There were a few articles of clothing laying on the bed near him.  He picked one up, held it triumphantly over his head, and yelled “BRA!!!!”.  A happened to be in the room and I think both of our mouths dropped.  Then we burst out laughing.  I had no idea W knew that word (or that article of clothing) and for someone who hardly talks, it was hilarious to hear him say that.  I guess all guys like bras – even at 1 year old.

W was working on a farm puzzle and I was naming the pieces.  One of those pieces was a barn.  As soon as I said barn, W insisted that we go downstairs.  When we got to the bottom of the staircase, W ran and grabbed a book called Chickens to the Rescue.  He quickly turned the pages until he found the picture he was looking for – a red barn similar to his puzzle piece.

I’ve mentioned that W likes to watch videos of himself on my phone.  I had one video on the other day.  It was from quite a while ago – probably 6-7 months ago.  I was asking him what various animals said.  What does the cat say, what does the sheep say, etc.  Well, as he was watching the video, he was answering my animal noise questions very enthusiastically.  Really cute. J

My mom and W were reading the book about monkeys jumping on the bed.  You know… where one falls off and bumps his head.  Well, upon hearing that, W jumped off the couch and bumped his head on the (carpeted) floor just like the monkeys in the book.

And possibly, my favorite one yet… I was trying to figure out if I should bring W over to his grandma’s house.  He wasn’t feeling well and I didn’t know if she’d be comfortable watching him.  I didn’t want anyone else to get sick.  I texted her, but didn’t hear back right away.  In the meantime, I was trying to get ready for work and the only way I could do so was to give W my phone to watch videos of himself.  In that time, as we were getting ready to leave, unbeknownst to me, W’s grandma called my phone.  Naturally I didn’t hear it and W somehow managed to text back “Can’t talk now  - I’m on my way”.  I kid you not.  Fast forward a few minutes and I have W in the car.  I check my phone and see that W’s grandma called so I try calling back.  No answer.  Then I notice a text - “Can’t talk now  - I’m on my way” and assume it’s from her since I didn’t type it.  So now I’m confused as to whether I’m dropping off W or she’s coming to my house.  So apparently there is some iPhone setting that allows you to respond to a call with automatic text.  I have no idea how to even do that, but I guess W does.  We only figured this out 4 hours later after lots of confusion… “you texted me.” “no, you texted me.”  “it says that text came from me, but I swear I didn’t type that…”

As for the littlest boy, I’m feeling movement every day and it’s exciting each and every time.  I can't wait for the big rolls and kicks.  I’m so looking froward to meeting this little guy.  I hope he has his brother’s red hair and light eyes.  "My boys"... that sure does have a nice ring to it. J

18 Weeks with Baby #2

How far along? 18 weeks

Size? Baby is the size of a sweet potato.

Maternity Clothes? Yes.  Still able to make some non maternity tops work.  Still tired of most of my clothes, but trying to suck it up and not buy anything.

Weight Gain? Around 10 pounds at last check.

Gender? A boy!

Sleep? I sleep really well when no one wakes me up (Ahem W and A!).  I do get up to use the bathroom quite often, though.  This baby definitely likes my bladder.

Movement? I'm feeling movement every day.  I only feel it a few times per day and it's subtle, but I love it!

Food Cravings? The small Carmel Frappe from McDonald's is still heavenly.  I could also go for chips and salsa!!  Mmmm!  Mexican food needs to happen this weekend.

Labor signs? Way too early.

What I Miss? Chicago style hot dogs and salami.

Symptoms? Feeling really good lately.  Still get tired easily.  I have the occasional sore back and feet when I overdo it, but otherwise great!

Happy or Moody? Happy!

Best Moment of the Week? Feeling more movement from baby.  W has been so funny lately (more on that in a future post).  I've really enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes recently?!?!  Weird because I've always hated cooking.

16 Weeks With Baby #2

How far along? 16 weeks

Size? Baby is the size of an avocado.

Maternity Clothes? Yes.  And I'm already tired of them.  I hate spending money on maternity clothes, but I've picked up a couple tops recently because I needed some variety.

Weight Gain? Not sure and I'm ok with not knowing.

Gender? According to the Verifi blood test, IT'S A BOY.  Another sweet little boy and we are thrilled.  Momma knew all along.

Sleep? Pretty good - except when W wakes up in the night.  He's getting over a cold and always seems to wake up when that happens.  Hoping to avoid cold germs as much as possible as we head into fall.

Movement? I think I've felt baby a few times, but nothing consistent.

Food Cravings? I allow myself one small Carmel Frappe from McDonald's each week and they are heavenly.

Labor signs? Way too early.

What I Miss? Chicago style hot dogs and deli sandwiches still.  And margaritas.  Any my energy.  It's coming back, but I still get tired so easily.

Symptoms? Feeling good lately.  Just the occasional headache and sore back, but can't really complain.

Happy or Moody? Happy!

Best Moment of the Week? Finding out #2 is a boy!  More progress on the house.  We took W to an indoor play place at the mall and he had a blast.  Mom had a blast watching him run around.

Looking forward to? Feeling more movement from baby, our fantasy football draft party (yes, we're nerds), fall (my favorite season!!).

This is a really horrible picture.  I had A take a phone pic after a long day of work.  Well, my phone has a tendency to make pictures really blurry - maybe something on the lens.  Somehow black and white looked less blurry.  I promise the next one will be better... and maybe I'll even wear shoes!  On the bright side, the blurry/darkness makes me look really thin so that's a win. ;)

14 Weeks with Baby #2!

I've seen lots of people do these and it seemed like a fun way to document this pregnancy...

How far along? 14 weeks

Size? Baby is the size of a lemon.

Maternity Clothes? Oh yes.  I've been in maternity pants for awhile.  Mixing maternity tops with regular tops.

Weight Gain? 5 pounds maybe?

Gender? Thinking boy.

Sleep? Really good until recently.  I was sleeping like a rock - minutes after my head hit the pillow, I was sound asleep, but lately I've been having disturbing dreams. :\

Movement? Yes!  I'm certain I felt baby last night while laying down and I loved it!

Food Cravings? I could really go for Pizza Hut cheese pizza and Coke (how terrible is that - lol).

Labor signs? Way too early.

What I Miss? Chicago style hot dogs and deli sandwiches.

Symptoms? Finally getting my energy back, but having lower back pain, a bit of nausea every now and then, and headaches.

Happy or Moody? Happy!

Best Moment of the Week? W making progress with his speech, working on the house, everyone finding out about baby #2 (and by everyone, I mean people who don't see me often - because if you've seen me, it's obvious. :)).

Looking forward to? Finding out baby's gender (confirming he's a he ;)).
