I am the publicist for the beautiful new novel THE WONDER OF LOST CAUSES (on sale 4/30) by New York Times bestselling author and veterinary surgeon Nick Trout. It is the touching story of a single mom who learns her son with Cystic Fibrosis can communicate with a very special dog—and the lessons this dog teaches that shape their future and transform their lives. It is particularly touching because it is inspired by Dr. Trout’s own experiences raising his daughter with Cystic Fibrosis and his extensive work in both the CF and veterinary communities.
Would you be interested in running a personal, behind-the-scenes piece by Dr. Trout about these personal inspirations—just in time for CF Awareness Month in May? Happy to hop on the phone to discuss more, and can send you another galley or any additional information if you are interested.
Here's a teaser for your consideration: How can my daughter's diagnosis of an incurable illness make me a better animal doctor, let alone a better person? Simple. Emily suffers from cystic fibrosis, CF, a genetic disease relentlessly conspiring to steal her last breath from the moment she was born. For the past twenty-five years I have found a renewed empathy for the 'pet parents' whose outpouring of unconditional love for the animals in their lives is no less heartfelt than mine. Together we fear a future without them, akin to any CF parent, battling the permanent ache of anticipatory grief. And yet, I am the luckiest father alive. There are far worse diseases, far shorter lives, far greater pains as a parent. I wouldn't trade this sadness, frustration, joy, and pride in my child for anything. I may be the parent, but she is the lesson and her life constantly shows me how much I needed to learn.
